Public Schools Stadium | Duluth, MN
June 12th, 2021 | Game #5
Current 2021 Records (W-L-T):
Duluth: 1-0-0; 1-2-0 at home/on the road
Dakota: 1-3-0; 0-2-0 at home/on the road
Duluth FC will return home to Duluth and Public Schools Stadium to face the Dakota Fusion following a
three game away run which saw the BlueGreens win once and lose twice. The return will be one of two
back-to-back home games for the BlueGreens before returning to the road and presents a big opportunity
to get points and return to the race for the top spots in the North conference.
While Duluth has dropped points, the BlueGreens have been plenty present on the scoresheet, scoring in
all four of the matches so far for a total of ten, a good sign ahead of their match against a Fusion side that
has conceded 23 goals this season. The past also points to an eventful future, with Duluth scoring ten
goals against the Fusion across their two wins over the club in 2019, while conceding zero.
While the Dakota Fusion have struggled this season and finished second-to-last in 2019, it is worth
remembering that the Fusion and Duluth FC have played several memorable matches against one another,
including in the US Open Cup. Duluth hosted the Fusion at James S. Malosky Stadium in 2018 as both
clubs made their debut in the United States’ premium cup competition, with the Fusion becoming the first
North Dakotan club to ever take part.
Duluth would win on penalties that night after an electric 4-4 draw in regulation time, with one goal even
coming from current head coach Sean Morgan. Duluth would then go on to play Saint Louis FC at Public
Schools Stadium in the second round, losing 2-0.
Joined by the Duluth faithful and the return of the Oasis del Norte food truck, Saturday is sure to mark an
eventful chapter in Duluth’s fourth NPSL season, one that has presented challenges but is sure to pack
plenty of excitement as Duluth approach the halfway mark of their twelve match schedule.
