Duluth Looks to Prove Their Grit Against Pros

Duluth FC vs. Saint Louis FC
Public Schools Stadium | Duluth, MN
5.16.18 | USOC Round #2

Current 2018 League Records (W-L-D):
Duluth: 0-0-0; 0-0-1 at home/on the road
Saint Louis: 2-0-2; 1-2-3 at home/on the road

Following two mixed results in two different competitions, Duluth FC now look to make history as they face against the USL’s Saint Louis FC. The two blue and green clad clubs have league play to worry about, Duluth looking to build on a tough road draw at the TwinStars while Saint Louis continue to work on their playoff hopes in the second division, and the USOC may offer both the question of priorities. The two clubs have never faced off before, though both have existed for a similar amount of time, Saint Louis being founded in 2014.

Saint Louis, despite a strong social media presence, a well liked and strong supporter community, and hard work, have yet to make the USL playoffs in any of their seasons. Their recent record in the USL’s 2018 season has had highs and lows, putting them at 8th place as of the writing of this piece. The question of whether they will risk putting too much on the USOC only to slip up on the playoffs will be on the lips of just about every Duluth fan, player, and staff member as the BlueGreens hope to continue their historic run in the competition. Any further advancement by Duluth FC will make them the first amateur Minnesotan club to do so in the modern era and they will also look to add their first pro club to their list of vanquished foes.

With league play at hand next weekend and the weekend before, Duluth will of course have to manage fatigue, injuries, and rotation as they approach the match, hoping to put out their best players without weakening their chances on the weekend trip to La Crosse. Duluth will be returning home to Public Schools Stadium for the match, which will kick off at 7:00 PM Central Time on May 16th. We hope to see your continued support and only ask that the weather be nicer to our fantastic supporters who show up no matter what’s in store.

On a final note, whoever wins the second round match will face Louisville City FC of the USL or the Long Island Rough Riders of the PDL. Louisville, who were USL champions last year, would host if they won their match with the Rough Riders, but Duluth would host if the PDL side triumphed over Louisville.
