Following a tough home draw with Med City, Duluth will head out on the road to face conference rivals Minneapolis City in the sixth week of the season. The trip, however, may bode well for a Duluth squad that has perhaps performed best on the road this season, winning their last away match 3-0.
Duluth now has six league goal scorers this season, with goals coming primarily from forwards and the midfield as expected, though fullback Damia Viader represents Duluth’s lethal options in the defense. James Westfield and Carlyle Junior are currently tied as lead goal scorers in all competitions at 2 goals each.
Duluth will travel down to Minneapolis to face a City side that has won all four of their games this season, scoring 12 goals and conceding 3. As things stand Duluth has 8 points via two wins and two draws, while City have twelve points and are first on the table.
Matches between Duluth and Minneapolis have almost always proven key for the North, with league results between the two playing a big role in both clubs’ conference title wins in 2017 and 2018 respectively. The matchup proved key in the NPSL playoffs last summer as well, when Duluth won a tight 2-1 match against City to move on to the regional final.
Saturday’s match will pit two of the Midwest’s last undefeated clubs against one another in a match sure to prove memorable. Kick off will be at 7pm CT, at Edor Nelson Field.
