Following an entertaining start to the season with a 4-3 win over Joy Athletic, Duluth FC travel down to Minneapolis midweek to play 2018 and 2019 NPSL North champions Minneapolis City SC in the BlueGreens’ first away match of the season. City have started the season well with wins over the Dakota Fusion, Sioux Falls, and La Crosse Aris, with just one of said matches taking place at home.

Duluth and Minneapolis City have often been the key competitors in the North conference, standing as the only two clubs that have won the conference and the two who have represented the conference most in the NPSL playoffs, during which Duluth managed to win a regional title in 2018 after beating Minneapolis City and AFC Ann Arbor in the playoffs.

The two sides have frequently bested each other at the other’s home field. Last year, Duluth beat City 2-1 at Edor Nelson Field, but lost 4-2 in Duluth. The first ever NPSL match between the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw in Minneapolis, a result in 2017 which helped Duluth take the Northern title that year. Duluth held City to a 1-1 draw at home in 2018, while City bested Duluth at in Minneapolis in the second-to-last match of the regular season to secure their conference title that year.

While Duluth pick up the pace to catch up with the rest of the conference in terms of games played, this week’s midweek match is sure to provide a strong indicator for how the race for the top two spots in the north will go.

Kick off is expected for 7:00 pm CST. Keep an eye on both club’s social media for relevant links for streaming the match and City’s ticket policies.
