Duluth Chase Their First Home Win After Another Stint On the Road

Duluth FC vs. VSLT FC
Public Schools Stadium | Duluth, MN
6.6.18 | Game #7

Current 2018 Records (W-L-D):
Duluth: 0-0-1; 2-0-3 at home/on the road
VSLT: 3-1-0; 1-0-1 at home/on the road

Having secured their first win in two weeks, Duluth FC now face two home games in their race to challenge for the conference title. The first of said matches is against the club currently in first, Viejos Son Los Trapos (VSLT). The Saint Paul-based club are currently in first, but will arrive in the north fresh off of their first defeat of the season, a devastating 1-5 home loss to Minneapolis City. With one club on the up and one teetering on the edge of a bad spell, the midweek matchup could be a key one in the direction both clubs head toward as they approach the mid point of the season.

Duluth will enter the match with Ryan Tyrer, Dana Kowachek, and Liam Moore as our top three goal scorers in that order. Jan Hoffelner has had a successful run in goal for the BlueGreens and has played virtually all of the undefeated run, but will hope to grab his second clean sheet of the season soon, the first coming in the 0-0 draw with Med City. Having played their Sioux Falls match with largely new players, the topic of rotation and how earns the starting spot will continue to be present when VSLT come to visit. Despite the successes of new players, Joe Watt stands out amongst all in the roster as a returning player who’s started every match, league and USOC, along with captaining many of those matches.

The match will also present Duluth with its first big reunion of the season as Andrew Jenkins, a key player for Duluth in 2017 who’s goal away at Med City was key to winning the conference, is now a consistent part of VSLT’s squad. Regardless of the scoreline, the club hopes to welcome Andrew back with open arms and begin a tradition of respect for our former players.
